Kladschrift van Jantje, by Felix Hess 1936

Felix Hess was a Dutch painter, etcher, (comics) artist and illustrator. From 1916 to 1936, he drew the peculiar comic 'Uit het Kladschrift van Jantje' in the political cultural magazine De Groene Amsterdammer. In this strip, he commented on political issues, through the eyes of a child. The strip was also drawn like it was actually drawn by the little 'Jantje'. Later on, Hess cooperated with the writer Leonard Roggeveen on such comics as 'De Wonderlijke Reis van Jan Klaassen' in Algemeen Handelsblad and Nieuwsblad van het Noorden (1929) and 'De Ongelooflijke Avonturen van Bram Vingerling'. Hess also did 'Uit Mijn Kladboek' in Uiltje from 1920 to 1921. He died in the concentration camp Sobibor during World War II.
