Normand Hudon was educated at the School of Fine Arts in his hometown Montréal, and got a scholarship to study in the atelier of painter Fernand Léger at the Montmartre Academy in Paris. Between 1948 and 1958 he was a caricaturist for magazines and papers like Photo-Journal, Le Petit Journal and La Patrie. Hudon subsequently worked for Le Devoir (1958-61) and La Presse (1961-65). Hudon has also made a few comic strips early in his career, using the pseudonym Rémy. His comic 'Julien Gagnon' was published in Le Petit Journal for 26 weeks, from 16 May to 7 November 1948. Besides a political cartoonist, Hudon was a well-known painter and an animator for television.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
