Robert Hugues was born in Nice, where he also studied architecture at the School of Decorative Arts. He began his career at the publishing house Draguignan in 1948. He was a pupil of Bob Leguay, who gave him artistic control over the series 'Tim l'Audace' at the publishing house Artima in the 1960s. He succeeded Robert Giordan as the artist of 'Pilar Santos' in the magazine Olympic (scripts by Bastide). In the 1980s, while working as an architect, he ventured into the world of erotic comics drawing for Sex Bulles, Bédé X and Bédéadult under the pseudonyms Trébor, Colber and Mancini. His best known comics in this genre are 'Cléo', 'Les Confidences de Nado', 'Lydia : Soubrette de Luxe', 'Célia, 15 ans', 'L' institution Marie-Madelaine', and 'Ninon'.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.

If you want to help us continue and improve our ever- expanding database, we would appreciate your donation through Paypal.
