Vesa Ilmaranta studied art at the University of Arts and Design in Helsinki. He became a teacher of visual arts. In the 1990s, he turned to comics, and scripted books like 'Neekeriartsie - Mies joka toi jatsin Suomeen' (1991, with Arto Nyyssönen), 'Jaana Pulssi ja lopullinen ratkaisu' (1996, with Arto Nyyssönen and Teijo Pyykkönen) and 'Elukat' (1998, with Nyyssönen). He does scriptwork for magazines like Eläinmaailma, Koirat and Suomen Kuvalehti. Also with the artist Arto Nyyssönen', he makes daily strips like 'Ilta-Sanomat' and 'Uusi Suomi'.
