Born in Turnu Măgurele, Vali Ivan is a graduated engineer. He turned to drawing however and his caricatures and comics have appeared in most important papers from post-communist Romania. In his work, Ivan gives a satirical view on the political current affairs and of his country and abroad. He has his own political comics feature every Saturday in Jurnalul National since 2003.
By 2005, he turned to more classic and realistic comic art when he made a comic book adaptation of Jules Verne's book 'Five Weeks in a Balloon' on the occassion of 100th annniverary of the author's death. The book was published by Egmont and quickly became a bestseller in Romanian bookshops. He returned to this graphical style in 2010, when he started the adventures of outlaw 'Iancu Jianu' for Jurnalul de Duminică.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over
12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop.
However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
If you want to help us continue and improve our ever- expanding database, we would appreciate your donation through Paypal.
