Étienne Jung was born in Wissembourg in the Bas-Rhin department in Alsace. From 1982 he studied Decorative Arts in Strasbourg, where he specialized in Illustration in Claude Lapointe's atelier. Jung has made comic pages and illustrations for magazines published by Bayard Presse (Grain de Soleil, Astrapi, Youpi), Fleurus Presse (Fripounet, Perlin, Terres Lointaines) and Averbode (Dauphin, Tremplin). He also made illustrations for schoolbooks by Belin and Hatier.

He has also appeared in Lanfeust Mag and made the album 'Au pays de Trémal' with Jean-Louis Fonteneau for Doin Editeurs in 1995. He worked with Denis-Pierre Filippi on the first book in the children's series 'Gargouilles' for Les Humanoïdes Associés in 2003, but was succeeded by Silvio Camboni for the second book. He has worked with Fonteneau again on the children's series 'Brüssli' since 2006.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
