Hamtaro, by Ritsuko Kawai

Japanese mangaka Ritsuko Kawai is the creator of 'Hamtaro', a manga and anime franchise about a little hamster and its friends. 'Hamtaro' has gained great popularity and has been made into a cartoon series and a line of merchandising. Ritsuko Kawai has had a say in the message that Hamtaro should keep promoting, which is non-violence, teamwork, cooperation and sharing. Kawai originated 'Hamtaro' in storybooks for children in 1997 and the first anime adaptation appeared in 2000. Kawai has additionally created girls' manga (shojo) for Ciao magazine, in genres varying from horror to comedy and science-fiction.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
