Bas Köhler was born in Amsterdam in 1973 and studied planology at the University of Amsterdam. After graduating, he left for Barcelona where he attended the Escola Joso for comics and illustration. He makes illustrations and comics for several books and magazines, such as De Theatermaker and De Groene Amsterdammer. He also works as a live cartoonist during cultural and political debates, where he specializes in translating conceptual text to concrete images. His comics appear in Libanese magazine Samadal, amongst others. In 2011 he was one of the finalists for the Jan Hanlo Stripessayprijs, for which he drew an essay in comic form about the five senses.
