Lee-Roy was born in Cincinnati, grew up in San Francisco (with
classmate and friend Brahm Revel), and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. After graduating, he completed a graphic narrative adapted from the storyline of a short film by brother John Valentine Lahey, titled 'Greg's Manifesto'.
With a contribution from his mother, Lee-Roy was able to self-publish the book (under his given name as Steve Lahey) and he set about distributing it independently. Within a year, the book had made its way into stores on four continents, in the United States, Australia, Japan, and mainland Europe, including its acceptance into the consignment section of Lambiek in Amsterdam.
Currently based in Los Angeles since 2002, Lee-Roy continues to produce graphic narrative work through his employment as Story Artist in live-action and animated motion pictures and has returned to the comics art form with new book projects in development.
