Walter Laureysens studied arts in Antwerp. He began working for Studio Vandersteen in 1971, inking 'Bessy' stories. He eventually became a penciller for the series, and has illustrated 197 stories. In the 1980s, he made illustrations for publishers of educational books, and also began a collaboration with the science-fiction magazine Essef. |

When both Essef and the German 'Bessy' stories were cancelled, he went to work for a printing firm in Wommelgem. Since 2004, he self-publishes his comic series 'Killroy Was Here', that previously appeared in Essef. |
