Marinko Lebovic was born in Novi Sad. He published his first comic work in 1979. He drew for the comic magazine Gigant and worked on the Yugoslav production of licensed series like 'Blek' and 'Tarzan' for the publishing house Marketprint in the 1980s. Besides Yugoslavia, Marketprint episodes of 'Tarzan' were published in Sweden, Norway, Germany, The Netherlands and Denmark. In the early 1990s, he took over the Dutch soccer comic 'Roel Dijkstra' from Keith Watson in Sjors en Sjimmie Stripblad. From 1992 to 1994, Marinko drew the three final episodes of the comic, which was originally created by Jan Steeman and Andries Brandt. The texts were written by Jaap Bubenik and later by Roy Robson.
