Lee Woo-il started his career as a member of the collective Nemorami, which reunited students from Hongik university. For this group, he drew frank stories in a clear and strong drawing style. Lee Woo-il created the character of 'Fraise' for comics that appeared in Le Film 2.0, Le Ciné 21 and and Le Journal de Tanji. From 1998 he drew the 'Cock Donald' series for the Donga Ilbo daily. Lee Woo-il released 'Wooiluhwa' in 2001.
