Bart van Leeuwen studied advertising at the ABK in his hometown Rotterdam. From 1961 to 1963, he drew the strip 'Roffeltje' in De Havenloods. He then created the newspaper comic 'Brammetje Fok' in cooperation with the detective novelist Cor Docter (1925-2006) for Rotterdamsch Nieuwsblad between 1964 and 1972. This strip, about a sailor, was also published in other local newspapers, including the Haagsche Courant, Arnheemse Courant, Leidsch Dagblad, Gooi en Eemlander, Tubantia, Limburgia Pers, Zwolsche Courant and Gronings Nieuwsblad. Since the 1970s, he has been working as an artist for advertisements. He also illustrated books, such as the 'Okkie Pepernoot' series.
