Caryn Leschen is a full-time freelance illustrator, copywriter, cartoonist and animator. Originally from New York City, she graduated from the California College of Arts & Crafts in Oakland, California in 1987.

Since 1992, she has produced the popular weekly cartoon-format advice column, 'Ask Aunt Violet', for alternative weeklies such as the SF Weekly, Chicago Reader and the Buffalo Beat. She has also self-syndicated 'Ask Aunt Violet' internationally.

She has served as editor-in-chief and art director of Wimmen's Comix, and has been featured in all issues since 1983. Her work can also be seen in the 'Twisted Sisters' graphic novel anthologies. Her Aunt Violet Productions has provided copywriting, art, design and animation services since 1987 to many clients.

Ms. Leschen's internet work includes heaps of catalog copywriting and the creation of many animated online greeting cards for Yahoo and Blue Mountain.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
