Vasco Lopes de Mendonça was a member of an artistic family - his father was a historian, playwright and novelist and his sister a playwright. He was the nephew of Rafael Bordalo. Vasco himself was a ceramist and caricaturist. He produced mainly children's comics and published in Notícias Miudinho. For this magazine, he created several characters and series, like 'Nicolau e Nicolina', 'Quim Quim', and 'Li-Li-Fan'. He had great talent for drawing animal stories.
He occasionaly contributed illustrations and comic strips to the magazine Civilização, where his sister Virgínia Lopes de Mendonça wrote regularly in the children's section. He also illustrated several children books.
