Salomon Barkowitz (Spirou, 1987)

Marc Lumer is a French designer and illustrator, based in Los Angeles, California. He studied Illustration in Brussels, Belgium, and began working for the comic magazines Spirou (1985-87) and Tintin (1989) after graduating. He drew mostly independent stories, as well as ones starring the character 'Salamon Barkowitz' for Spirou.

He moved to LA in the mid 1990s to take a position as a visual development artist on Warner Bros' 'Batman Beyond' and 'Superman' animated series. Later, he worked under Jeffrey Katzenberg at Dreamworks on 'The Road to El Dorado' and 'The Prince of Egypt. He also collaborated with Brad Bird and on a variety of projects for Disney TV Animation, Turner Feature Animation, Sony TV Animation and Film Roman. Lumer has additionally illustrated children's books, and runs Marc Lumer Design since 2004.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
