Ma Ding was born in Wuhan City, Hubei Province. He was infatuated with cartoons since he a 12-year old factory apprentice. After 1949, he was employed to do cartoons in a newspaper. Since then, he has published hundreds of cartoons and his works have been displayed in national exhibitions several times. Besides cartooning, he is also skilled in traditional Chinese painting and photography. He has been editor of the Cartoon Column of Chongqing Evening News.
