Jaime Mainou was a Catalan comic artist, best known for his work for the German market in the 1970s. He began his career in the late 1950s, working for Rin-Tin-Tin and La Risa of Editorial Marco. In the 1960s, he worked for Bruguera, illustrating novels in the collection Héroes, among others. In the end of that decade, he focused on working for foreign publishers through the Bardon Art and Studio Ortega. He made stories with 'Laurel & Hardy' ('Dick & Doof') for the European market, and from the 1970s, he mainly worked for German publishers like Kauka and Bastei.

For Rolf Kauka, he illustrated his own creations, 'Oeste Moustache' and 'Pippin' in Primo and Fix und Foxi Extra, as well as some 'Lupo' comics. Mainou made a comics version of the television series 'Die Biene Maya', and has also done art on some 'Goofy' gags for the Scandinavian Disney publisher Gutenberghus (Egmont) in 1976-77. He additionally continued to work for Spanish publications like TBO and Trinca, illustrated coloring books and worked for the animation studios Rodamina and Acció.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
