Amoebe (Televizier, 10/2/1966)

Willem van Malsen was a Dutch artist, painter and illustrator, as well as an inventor and writer. Born in Utrecht as the son of photographer Willem van Malsen, he worked in Paris, France, from 1967 to 1970. There he contributed to the political magazine L'Enragé. Around this time he also drew for Dutch magazines like Vrij Nederland and Haagse Post. A collection of his comics for these magazines was published by Van Gennep in 1980, 'Nooit Meer Lijden'. In Televizier he made a comic strip called 'Amoebe'. He has illustrated the work of writers like Mensje van Keulen, Gerrit Komrij, Cees Nooteboom and Kees van Kooten, with whom he also made the 2005 children's book 'Het Schaampaard'.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
