Diabolik, by Gino Marchesi

Luigi (Gino) Marchesi was born in Brembio, in the province of Milan. He began his career working for the studios of Roy d'Ami. He then joined Astorina, for which he created 'Dick il Giustiziere'. In 1963, he was the first professional artist to work on the pocket-sized comic book 'Diabolik', that was created by the sisters Angela and Giuliana Giussani in 1962. He drew the third issue and redrew the original issues 1 and 2 in 1964. That same year, he started to work for Universo and returned to the D'Ami studios. In 1965, he became an artist for Mondadori and stopped making comics. Gino Marchesi has also contributed to the British Fleetway publications Air Ace and War Picture Library.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.

If you want to help us continue and improve our ever- expanding database, we would appreciate your donation through Paypal.
