Mauro Marchesi was born in Verona, and studied at the La Nuova Eloisa comics school in Bologna. He began his career in 1995 with 'Generazione M', a comic published in Rumore. He has done cover illustrations for children's books at Mondadori, and has worked for the magazine Marie Claire of the publisher Zanichelli. He is a teacher at the comics school in Firenze. For the publisher Phoenix, he has made albums like 'Molecole a Molla' (created for L'Isola che non c'è) and 'Hollywood Bau' (with Francesco Tacconi). With Andrea Barricordi, he made 'Essere Lupin III' for Kappa Edizioni.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over
12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
