Sutul Bomba by Radu Marian

Radu Marian won the first prize by a cartoon contest held by Cutezătorii magazine in 1970. He remained a regular contributor to this magazine until 1985. Among his stories were 'Aventurile colegului Minitehnicus - Sutul Bomba' (1971) and 'Misterul Robotilor'. Marian was however educated as an architect. He settled in Constanţa in 1978, where he became director-general with the local Institute of Architecture. He was elected mayor in 1989, the first since the fall of communism.

He also returned to comics in the 1990s, publishing his work in magazines like Orion (from Craïova), Start 2001, Jurnalul SF, Haz în vacanţă (from Bucharest) and the dailies Azi (Bucharest) and Cuget Liber (Constanţa). His first comic album was 'Cristalul magic' in 1994. His next book, 'Bienvenue, belle-mère!' was published in the French language in 2001 and won the Sandu Florea Trophy in the following year. The book was translated to Portuguese in 2009.

Marian's next album was also published in French. 'Le Chariot de Feu' (2007) was first serialized in the daily newspaper Azi de Bucarest. A compilation of his work for Cutezătorii was published under the title 'Minitehnicus 1970' in 2008. Between 2001 and 2009, Radu Marian has participated in comics festivals in Contern (Luxembourg), Fabrègues (France), Hornu (Belgium) and Viseu (Portugal).

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
