El Mejor Amigo by Antonio Marino Souto

Antonio Mariño Souto, also known as Ñico, is a Cuban painter, graphic designer and cartoonist. Born in Havana, he graduated from the Concepción Arenal School in the Centro Gallego in Havana, Cuba, with a degree in plastic arts, and also has a degree in journalism. His work has appeared in publications like Zig Zag, Bohemia and Palante since 1955, and he is the author of five humorous novels. His comic strip 'El Mejor Amigo' was published in the small format comics paper La Tira in the 1990s. He has won numerous national and international awards.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
