Little is known about Stefan Mart, the narrator and illustrator of the picture book 'Märchen der Völker' ('Tales of the Nations'), published by the Cigarettenbilderdienstt Hamburg-Bahrenfeld in 1933. The book contained of 22 stories, and held 150 colour illustrations. The pictures could be received when the readers sent the publisher vouchers, that were for sale with Reemstra cigarette packets. The book was very popular during the six years it was in print. In 1939 the Hamburg Cigarette Picture Service discontinued the book, replacing it by 'German Fairy Tales'.
Although it leans more to illustration, some of Stefan Mart's work, especially 'Bobby Box', comes very close to the idea of a modern American cartoon story.
