The White Cowboy, by Martian (Martin-Jan van Santen)

Martin-Jan van Santen, who uses the pseudonym Martian, is a creator of animation series. He has created among others 'Bobby's Body', 'The White Cowboy' (VPRO) and 'Egoland' (BNN). For 'Egoland', he was the scriptwriter and director, as well as the voice actor of Beatrix. Martian has also created comics with 'The White Cowboy', of which an album was published by Big Balloon in 2003.

Van Santen then created the comic 'De Avonturen van Ridder Roosje' with Paul Reichenbach, that appeared in the Kampen newspaper De Brug. The first album was published by Reichenbach's company Pear Productions in 2008. He runs the Bullet Hole Studios in Kampen, together with Peter Oudman.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
