Niger by Leila Marzocchi

Born in Bologna, Leila Marzocchi has been working as an illustrator and comic artist since 1985. With an artistic background from the Zio Feininger School and the avantgardistic art group Valvoline, she has published work in Italian publications like Reporter, Il Manifesto and L'Unità. She was co-founder of the magazine Fuego in 1990, and has also worked for publications in France (Science & Vie Junior) and Japan (Kodansha, Shogakukan).

Marzocchi is the author of the comic books 'Bagolino Monogatari' (Centro Fumetto Andrea Pazienza) and 'Il camioncino Rosso' (Biber). Coconino Press published her graphic novels 'L'Enigma' (2003) and 'Il Diario del Verme del Pino', as well as 'La ballata di Hambone' (2010), her collaboration with Igort. Her running series 'Niger' (since 2006) is an ecological fable for all ages, and is also published by Fantagraphics in the USA.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
