Calvin Massey has been active in the American comic book field from the late 1940s to the mid 1950s. His early credits from the 1940s include stories for Perfect Crime and Steve Duncan for Cross Publications, and crime stories for Superior Publishers. He mainly worked for Timely/Atlas on horror, war and crime titles, like Battle Action, Battle, Marines in Battle, Spellbound and War Comics. Additional work include romance stories for St. John Publishing, 'Little Wise Guys' for Lev Gleason and 'Crimson Avenger' and 'Masked Ranger' for Story Comics. He eventually turned to painting, and his work has represented the black community in the art world.
