Les Sous-sols du Révol, by Marc-Antoine Mathieu
Les Sous-sols du Révol

Marc-Antoine Mathieu was born in Antony (Hauts-de-Seine), and raised in Angers. After attending art school in Angers, Mathieu co-founded the art agency Lucie Lom, which is best known for organizing exhibitions in Angoulême, Blois Paris and Bastia. He made his comic debut in 1987, when Futuropolis published his first album, 'Paris-Mâcon', which he had created with his brother Jean-Luc. During the nineties, he created several albums with the character 'Julius Corentin Acquefacques' for Delcourt, notable for their Kafkaesque style.

In 1993, he drew 'La Mutation' for the collection Patte de Mouche of L'Association. In the following year, he made 'L'Ascension' for Le Retour de Dieu, a collective book for the publishing house Autrement. His 'Le Répertoire Professional de la B.D. Francophone 1998-1999' was published by C.N.B.D.I. in 1997. In 1998 he was back at L'Association with 'Le Coeur des Ombres', another Patte de Mouche. Again for Delcourt, he produced 'Mémoire Morte' and 'Le Dessin' in 2000 and 2001. He was present in Pavillon Rouge from its first issue in 2001 with the absurd and humorous 'Le Réalisme est Relatif'. A collection of his short stories was published by Delcourt in 2005 and in 2006, he made 'Les Sous-sols du Révol' for Futuropolis.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.

If you want to help us continue and improve our ever- expanding database, we would appreciate your donation through Paypal.
