Italian illustrator and comics artist Francesco Mattioli studied at the comics field La Nuova Eloisa and works as a freelance artist in the advertising field. He has worked as an illustrator for Carmilla (Phoenix Enterprise). Also for Phoenix, he has drawn for the miniseries 'San Pietro', scripted by Otto Gabos, in 1997. He also cooperated with Gabos on the advertising comic 'Mariadele' and on a contribution to the anthology 'Frontiera'. In 2001, he made the comic 'La Furia di Eymerich' with scriptwriter Valerio Evangelisti. Mattioli has written the comic 'Bor' for the artist Giovanni Simoncelli. As an illustrator, Mattioli has worked for the Igort Pictures and Anastasis studios. In 2000, he founded the F.lli Mattioli company with his brother Emiliano, through which the brothers publish a series of self-produced calendars, as well as the Mirabolante Almanacco.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over
12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
