mcbess is the penname of the French illustrator Matthieu Bessudo, who lives and works in London. Coming from the Cannes area, he attended the Supinfocom multimedia school in Arles, where he studied 3D animation. He graduated from Supinfocom with the short film 'Sigg Jones', which he made in cooperation with Douglas Lassance and Jonathan Vuillemin. The trio were subsequently hired as directors by The Mill, an Oscar-winning VFX company in London.
During his school period, he built his reputation by publishing work on several online boards such as Eatpoo and CafeSale. mcbess' surrealist drawings are filled with food and musical references, as well as characters inspired by old Fleischer cartoons. A collection of his drawings called 'Big Mother' was published by Nobrow in 2013. He is additionally a guitarist with the band Diztrait, and also performs with his own band The Dead Pirates.
