Stephanie McMillan was born in South Florida. She studied at the Tisch School of Arts at New York University, where she graduated in 1987. She started drawing weekly cartoons in 1992. Her 'Minimum Security' appears in various alternative publications since 1999.

She works at a weekly paper and is co-editor of the literary magazine Two Eyes. She has worked with the environmentalist writer Derrick Jensen on the graphic novel 'As the World Burns' (2007) and on the children's book 'Mischief in the Forest' (2009).
