Franciscus Henricus Meijer, Frans Meijer for short, was born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands in 1900. He was a painter, illustrator and comic artist, drawing a great number of comics for publisher Helmond, often using the pseudonyms Ko Koster and Jaap van Loon. He lived in Haarlem until 1930, working as a reporter and illustrator for several magazines, published by De Spaarnestad.

Titles of comics he produced are 'De Poolvlucht van Pim, Pam en kleinen broer' (1929), 'Gloof ut of gloof ut niet' (1929/1930, in De Humorist), 'Drein Dreutel en Piet Prikkel', 'Roetje en Dribbeltje', 'Kikker Karel en Tuimeltje', 'De Reis naar het Geheimzinnige Eiland', 'Vijanden van het Bijendorp' (all written by his wife Anny Toirkens), 'Klaas Klaver' (1938), 'Waarom de kabouters verdwenen' (1934), 'De dolle bende' (1935), 'De Reis van Sindbad de Zeeman' (1938), 'De Zwarte reus van Darjabar' (1938), 'Sjeffie in de Wildernis' (1934), 'Sjoe-Sjoe en Takki-Toe' (1934), 'De Maanreis van Doppie Dom' (1935), 'Plaaggeestje' (1936), and 'De Vacantie van Apensnoet' (1936).

Meijer was also active under the pseudonyms Henk van Beek and Piet Pion. As Van Beek, he worked for Helmond's collection 'Lief en Leed uit het Leven der Dieren' (a.o. 'Knolletje in 't Spinnenland').

In the 1940s, he made 'De Geheimzinnige Stad' (1942), 'De Kinderrovers' (1942), 'Stemmen in het Oerwoud' (1942) and 'De Heldendaden van Michiel de Ruyter'. Frans Meijer also took over the comic 'Fred en Minet' from Daan Hoeksema in 1932. Frans Meijer died in Breda in 1972.
