Born in Hamburg, self-taught artist Andreas Michalke published his first illustrations in the hardcore magazines Trust and Zap in the late 1980s. Playing in a band himself, he combined his two activities by making flyers and posters for other bands. In 1991, he started the autobiographical magazine Artige Zeiten with Minou Zaribaf, that won a prize for Best Fanzine at the 1993 Comic Salon in Hamburg. His 1999 comic 'Smalltown Boy' won the ICOM Independent prize.
Michalke collaborated with Julia Tägert on the series 'Sophies Welt' for the Berliner Zeitung in 2001. For the Berliner paper Jungle World, he made the comic strip 'Bigbeatland', that has been collected in book format by Reprodukt. Reprodukt also published his 2008 comic 'Monovision'. Together with Mawil, Fil and Reinhard Kleist he formed the collective Berlin Comix. The collective published the book collection 'Geschichten aus dem Comicgarten' and the magazine Teufel & Pistolen.
