De Lotgevallen van Meneer Adriaan, by Jac. H. Molier

Jacobus Henri Molier, Koos Molier for short, was born in The Hague, The Netherlands in 1904. He studied to become a drawing teacher, and started his own advertising agency, called Studio Molier, together with his wife. After World War II the studio was renamed Studio Creare. He drew many posters and covers. During the 1930s he illustrated the children's section of magazine Het Vaderland, written by Luc Willink, and later on his own texts. He created the comic 'De Wonderlijke Uitvindingen van Meneer Vliegwiel' for the same magazine in 1935. This comic is considered the first Dutch science fiction comic.

Other titles Koos Molier created around the same time are 'Appie van Gelder' (a children's book for boys), 'Jan Perseijn' and 'De Lotgevallen van Mijnheer Adriaan'. After World War II, he illustrated many children's books for publisher Van Goor. He also wrote poetry, which was published in the collection 'Uit het Slib van mijn Ziel'. He was very interested in spiritualism and mysticism and owned a great collection of crucifixes and statues of saints, which were donated to a museum after his death in 1998.

Series and books by Jac. H. Molier in stock in the Lambiek Webshop:

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.

If you want to help us continue and improve our ever- expanding database, we would appreciate your donation through Paypal.
