Carlos Mota was born in São Jose dos Campos, where he still lives and works. He began his professional career in 1995. He eventually joined the Lynx Studio. He started out working on superhero comics for US publishers like Marvel, DC and Image, and his credits include 'Star Trek', 'Far Scape', 'Futurama', 'Tomb Raider', 'Gen 13', 'Glory', 'UltraForce', 'Journey into Mystery', 'Lady Death' and 'Bad Kitty'.

He switched to drawing Disney comics in 1998. He drew movie characters like 'The Little Mermaid', 'Aladdin', and 'Beauty and the Beast' but turned to the Duck family for the Brazilian publisher Abril in 2000. Since 2003, he has drawn several stories for the Dutch Donald Duck weekly, most notably the lead story in the 2007 Amsterdam special ('Avontuur in Amsterdam'). In 2005 he also began working for the Danish publisher Egmont. Drawing his inspiration from Daniel Branca, Daan Jippes and Vicar, Mota's work is especially characterized by the highly detailed backgrounds.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
