Misterul Invatatorului Helmuth

Dumitru Negrea was Rumanian caricaturist and illustrator, who drew comics in the 1960s. He was a graduate from the Institute of Plastic Arts in Bucharest, and was best known as the cartoonist Gan in the humorous magazine Urzica. He illustrated many books, as well as a certain amount of comic stories for Luminiţa magazine. His best known comic series was his adaptation of F. Langer's 'Misterul învaţătorului Helmuth', which he drew in an expressionist style between 1965 and 1967. In 1965 he also made an adaptation of Cezar Petrescu's 'Fram, ursul polar', and the story 'Aventuri pe Lună' from a script by C. Roman. His comical series 'Nica A. Tomica' was created in cooperation with Gh. Iliescu in 1967.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
