Nicolae Nobilescu is a Romanian illustrator and comic book artist. He was one of the few artists who could make a living out of illustrating alone during the country's communist era. Born in Bucharest, he published his first drawing in Universul Copiilor at the age of 8. He made caricatures for the Constructorul paper while fulfilling his military service at the slipway of the Danube-Black Sea canal.

Between 1966 and 1972 he illustrated over 500 book covers, while also designing storyboards for films and documentaries. He also drew ten children's comic books during the 1970s and 1980s, that were also translated to Russian, Czech, Hungarian, Spanish, English and French, including 'Yo-yo the Little Cat', 'Frisky - the Adventures of a Naughty Dog', 'Freddie the Frog', 'Cheeky the Smallest Mouse of All' and 'Chirpy the Naughty Little Bird'.

In the 1999-2002 period he designed several sets of stamps for the Romanian postal services. An avid golfer, Nobilescu edited his own golf guide in 2000, and is head of Golf magazine since 2002.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.

If you want to help us continue and improve our ever- expanding database, we would appreciate your donation through Paypal.
