Superman, by Leo Nowak

Leo Nowak was a musician and painter who joined Joe Shuster's studio in September 1940. There, he replaced Paul Cassidy on the 'Superman' comic. He remained at the studios until early 1943. After serving as a battalion artist during World War II, he moved to Southern California. For 25 years he was the chief illustrator for Stamps-Conheim Newspaper Advertising Service in Los Angeles. Moving to the desert community of Inyokern in the mid-1970s, Nowak illustrated political cartoons for The Daily Independent in Ridgecrest for twelve years.
