After his technical studies, Giancarlo Olivares took courses in comics by the Argentine artist Ruben Sosa. From 1991, he cooperated on the collective albums 'Profondo Rosso' and 'Full Moon Project' with other young artists from Brescia. Olivares then did some short stories for Intrepido scripted by Federico Memola, before he became an artist of 'Lazarus Ledd' and 'Hammer' at Star Comics. He also became the cover artist of these series. Afterwards, he joined the staffs of 'Nathan Never' and 'Legs Weaver' at Bonelli. In 1998, he became the cover artist of 'Jonathan Steele'.
