Stephan Pastis was born of Greek descent in San Marino, California in 1968. He studied at the University of Berkeley, where he graduated in political science in 1989. After that, he entered law school and became an attorney. In law school, he created the comic strip 'Rosen'. In 1996, when he was already practising law for a few years, he submitted a number of his comics for syndication. A year later he came up with 'Pearls Before Swine'. It got syndicated in 1999 and has been running in several newspapers.
