Rumen Petkov studied at the University of Sofia, Bulgaria, where he graduated in 1978. He started to work in the comics and animation field, and became one of the main contributors to Bulgarian comics magazine Duga, that appeared between 1979 and 1992. His best known comic creations are 'Choko and Boko' and he was the author of the first Bulgarian full-length animated movie 'The Treasure Planet'. Later, Rumen Petkov built a successful career in the West and became one of the creators of such famous characters like 'Johnny Bravo' and 'Dexter's Laboratory'.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over
12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
