Manuel Gustavo Bordalo Pinheiro is the son of Portuguese comic pioneer Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro. Although a talented artist, he wasn't the genius his father was. He made his debut in Os Pontos nos ii, a magazine published by his father. Apart from being a caricaturist, cartoonist and poster designer, he was also a ceramic artist. Although he was successful as an illustrator in magazines like A Paródia, O António Maria and O Gafanhoto, Manuel felt that his future was in pottery, so he stopped his activities as an illustrator.
