Born in Milan, Alberto Ponticelli drew since an early age, and won a contest for new comics artists in 1994. This got him his first publishing assignment, doing three 'D-Generation' issues. He founded the Shok Studio with Maurizio Rosenzweig, where he drew and published the 'Egon' miniseries, the 'Ragno' series and some 'Morgue' covers. In 1996, he got his first foreign assignment. He did layouts for Image's 'Sharky' miniseries and a 'Lobo' cover at DC. By now, the 'Egon' series was published in the USA through Dark Horse. Marvel Italia also reprinted it. Ponticelli then did the four-issue 'Dead or Alive: a Cyberwest' miniseries at Dark Horse, which was also printed by Marvel Italia.

He contributed short stories to Heavy Metal and Frank Frazetta Fantasy Illustrated. In 2000, he returned to Image with a four-issues story arc on Todd McFarlane's 'Sam and Twitch' with writer Brian Bendis. For Marvel, he did 'Marvel Knights v2' and 'Blade II: Bloodhunt'. For the Italian and French market, he illustrated 'Starlight' with a text by Giovanni Gualdoni. He additionally made the space adventure 'Stellaire' with Sylvaine Corgiat and Patrick Galliano for Les Humano├»des Associ├ęs. For Buena Vista Las, he did a comic based on the TV series 'Alias' with Pierluigi Cothran.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
