Batman Confidential, by Whilce Portacio
Batman Confidential #1 (February 2007)

Whilce Portacio started drawing seriously when he began getting paid for it, and his first professional work was as an inker for Marvel Comics in 1985 ('Longshot'). He is probably best known for his creation of the series 'Wetworks' and his work on 'Uncanny X-Men', 'The Punisher' and 'X-Factor'. In 1992, Portacio joined together with Todd McFarlane, Rob Liefeld, Jim Valentino, Erik Larsen, Marc Silvestri and Jim Lee to form Image Comics.

He left Image shortly afterwards and eventually published 'Wetworks' under Jim Lee's Wildstorm imprint. Other series he worked on are 'Stone' and Marvel's 'Iron Man' (the 'Heroes Reborn' storyline), as well as DC's 'Batman Confidential'. In August, 2000, Portacio fell into a diabetic coma as a result of a failing pancreas. He woke up a week later, and wasn't able to draw again until six weeks later.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.

If you want to help us continue and improve our ever- expanding database, we would appreciate your donation through Paypal.
