Green Lantern, by Howard Purcell

Howard Purcell is an American comic book artist who has mainly worked for National/DC. He attended the Art Students League, and began his career during the "Golden Age of American Comics" in the 1940s. He co-created 'Sargon the Sorcerer' and 'Gay Ghost' (later 'Grim Ghost'). His other credits include cover art and features like 'Green Lantern', 'Hop Harrigan', 'Lando, Man of Magic', 'Mark Lansing'. In the 1950s and 1960s he did art on the war and mystery titles (a.o. Mystery In Space, House of Mystery, House of Secrets, Strange Adventures), as well as 'Sea Devils'. He was a teacher at the Luzerne County Community College in the 1970s.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
