Wipperoen by Jan van Reek

Jan van Reek was born in Den Helder. He made his first comics, 'Oom Klaas' and 'Iwan', for the magazine Eva. In 1961, he teamed up with the artist Raymond Bär von Hemmersweil, with whom he created 'Wipperoen', a newspaper text strip that was published in Dutch newspapers Algemeen Handelsblad, Dagblad voor Noord Limbrug and De Telegraaf, as well as in newspapers from Belgium (Het Laatste Nieuws), France (La République du Centre), Spain (Tele Express), Britain and South-Africa (Cape Town Argus).

Van Reek and Bär did the initial sketching and lay-outs together, and then Bär did the finished art and Van Reek focused on the texts. At the end of his life, Van Reek was too ill to contribute to the strips, so the balloon strips for De Telegraaf were made by Bär alone. Jan van Reek passed away in 1994.

Series en boeken door Jan van Reek op voorraad in de Lambiek Webshop:

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.

If you want to help us continue and improve our ever- expanding database, we would appreciate your donation through Paypal.
