Mecki, by Volker Reiche

Volker Reiche studied law, but his love for drawing got in the way of a career in in this field. In 1979, he self-published his his first comic book 'Liebe'. Reiche worked sporadically for the satirical magazines Pardon and Titanic as well as for Hinz und Kunz from 1978 to 1981. From 1979 to the mid-1980s, he has done scripts and art on stories with Disney's 'Donald Duck' for the Dutch publisher Oberon. He also cooperated on the animation on some 'Donald Duck' advertising films.

In the early 1980s, Reiche created the comic character 'Willi Wiedehopf', whose first comic album was published by Semmel Verlach in 1984. A second album was announced but never published. In 1985 Reiche was asked to do a new series with the classic 'Mecki' character, originally created by Reinhold Escher, which he did for the television weekly Hor Zü until 2000. For the Frankfürter Allgemeine Zeitung, he draws the newspaper strip 'Strizz' since 2002. On the side Volker Reiche, has been active in oil paints starting in the 1990s.
