Balko by Dusan Reljic

Dusan Reljic (Dušan Reljić) was born in Novi Sad, Serbia. He studied philosophy and sociology before he devoted himself to cartoons and comics. By the 1980s he established himself as one of the leading Yugoslav comic authors, publishing his work in many newspapers and magazines from the former Yugoslavian countries.

He eventually settled in Athens, Greece, where he gained publicity with political caricatures and a series of covers for Kiriakatiki Eleftherotypia. He also created 'Balco from Neworderland', a comic strip for Eleftherotypia's daily paper. Other comics include 'The Marbles' and an adaptation of 'The Decameron'.

Reljic has furthermore done art for licensed properties like Disney, Tom & Jerry, Lucky Luke, Pink Panther and Woody Woodpecker. He has illustrated for Mamouth Comics, Metro, Status, Playboy, Parapente, Penthouse, Modern Times and Epsilon. Currently, he is doing political cartoons for the Kosmos Tou Ependitis.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
