Fleurtje

Joanika Ring is a Dutch sculptor and painter, who has also worked in a couple of comic projects. She was born Joanika Zwart in Laren, as the daughter of sculptor, painter and TV pioneer Peter Zwart. She has worked as an illustrator for the American advertising agency JWT. She has worked for Toonder Studio's, where she met her husband, animator Børge Ring.

Together with her husband, she has worked on a couple of comics in the 1970s and 1980s, most notably 'Distel', that appeared in Sjors from 1970 to 1974 (scripts by Lo Hartog van Banda and Patty Klein). They also made 'Kobus en Kachelmans' in Sjors (scripts Piet Hein Broenland) and 'Fleurtje' in Tina (scripts Patty Klein). Joanika has worked as an inker for Donald Duck in the 1970s, and as one of the artists for the Swedish comic 'Pelle Svanslös'.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.
