comic art by Artie Romero

Artie Romero began his career in comics during his high school days in the 1960s. He studied commercial art in college, while self-publishing some comics. In 1973, he founded the underground comix group Everyman Studios with Darrel Anderson, Rick Berry, Thom Haber, David Gregory Taylor, Ron Hueftle and Kirk Kennedy. Together with Darrel Anderson, he produced the alternative/underground newspaper, The Everyman Flyer, from Summer 1974 until February, 1975. In 1976, he started publishing underground comix with the Everyman Comics imprint, such as 'Animal Bite Comix' and 'Realm', as well as the alternative comics journal Cascade Comix Monthly. He left comics in the early 1980s and began a career in animation.

Since 1999, Lambiek presents the Comiclopedia as a free service to comic fans from all over the world. The database has expanded to over 12,000 biographies of international comic artists, and also has an extensive Dutch section about comics in the Netherlands.
For 15 years, the site was funded from the resources of our Amsterdam-based shop. However, the current economical circumstances make it difficult for us to maintain this service. At the moment the Comiclopedia's sole editor works for us free of charge, aided by a couple of (international) volunteers.

If you want to help us continue and improve our ever- expanding database, we would appreciate your donation through Paypal.
